A majority of the images in this gallery were taken from late August into October in of 2022. Based on my observations, this is the height of butterfly season for Southeast Arizona. Most of the photos are a byproduct of Catalina State Park, where I frequently hike. A few were captured in Cochise County. Some butterflies, like the Dogface Sulphur, were commonly seen during my day to day excursions. Others, like the Gulf Fritillary, were only seen that one time. I prefer to photograph butterflies and wildlife in general, in their natural habitat, as opposed to a museum or someone’s backyard, where the vegetation has been introduced and not indigenous to the region. Becoming familiar with these beautiful miracles of nature has been a very enjoyable experience. I have a few butterflies that remain unidentified. They will remain hidden, until I find out what they are. Additionally, there are still butterflies some that come through the area, I haven’t been able to capture yet. I will continue to keep an eye out for those, as I continue to my quest to obtain at least one good photograph of each of the butterfies of Arizona.
